Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500

Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500

Both the Ford F-150 and the Ram 1500 deserve accolades for all the features that make drives and hauls through Albertville, Gadsden, and Huntsville, Alabama, easy to handle. Is one a better fit, though, for your lifestyle?

To find out once and for all, Gilbert and Baugh Ford created this comparison, so you’ll know which truck you prefer.

Remember that we buy cars (even if you don’t buy one of ours).

Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500 Performance

Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500With a vast amount of engine choices, the Ford already exceeds the competition with six diverse engines, including a full hybrid. The Ram features four engines, one a mixed hybrid that comes with the added eTorque hybrid technology.

In fact, the 3.5L Powerboost™ full hybrid V6 engine in the F-150, exclusive to the truck class, produces 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque. The 1500’s hybrid mix, the 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine, comes with the previously mentioned eTorque, and produces 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.

There’s a divide, too, between the transmissions of both pickups. The Ford uses a 10-speed automatic transmission while the Ram operates with the TorqueFlite® 8-speed automatic transmission. Also, the Ford includes six driving modes, with the option for three more. Unfortunately, the Ram offers none.

If you’re looking for the better gas mileage, stick with the F-150. It achieves an EPA-estimated 25 city/26 highway MPG with the 3.5L engine. Drivers of the 1500 will need to stop at the pump more often because it only achieves an EPA-estimated 20 city/25 highway MPG.

Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500 Towing Capacity

Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500

Turn to the Ford F-150 if you need to accommodate a trailer weighing up to 14,000 pounds, which ranks as best-in-class towing capacity. It also received honors for the payload, a best-in-class achievement at 3,325 pounds.

There’s no denying that the Ram 1500 acts as a heavy hitter, though. It can tow a maximum of 12,750 pounds and can carry 2,300 pounds of payload. Either way, you’re getting some heft with both trucks.

Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500 Interior

Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500Inside your vehicle, you’ll spot some differences, as well. Behind the wheel of the Ford F-150, you’ll see an available 12-inch digital gauge cluster that can show you which driving mode you’re using or how much fuel is left in your tank. The Ram Driver Information Digital Cluster Display measures seven inches and is optional at that size.

Your comfort level differs in each truck as well, with an available 10-way power driver’s seat in the Ford with the added luxury of Active Motion® massage functions in the multi-contour optional front seats. Plus, you’ll get 43.9 inches of front legroom, another expansive benefit.

In the Ram, there’s no option for a special driver’s seat with any type of massage capabilities. You also get three inches less of front legroom.

Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500 Truck Bed

More truck-bed styles can be chosen for your F-150 with Regular Cab, SuperCab, and SuperCrew® configurations that can be partnered with a 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, or an 8-foot truck bed. For the 1500, two truck beds can outfit your ride, a 5-foot, 7-inch Crew Cab or a 6-foot, 4-inch Quad Cab. Comparable sizes to the ones found for the Ford but fewer choices for you.
