Mayors win Celebrity Feud for charity

The mayors’ team may have won Celebrity Feud, but the homeless were the real winners with the “Celebrity Feud” charity event raking in $12,000 for Marshall County Home Place.

Lee Ward, director at Marshall County Home Place, said the money raised will go to the building fund to pay for the new apartments, which are now under construction.

“I want to thank the businesses that sponsored ‘Celebrity Feud’ and the folks that bought tickets,” Ward said. “I hope everyone had a great time helping Home Place raise money to build more transitional housing apartments to help homeless families get back on their feet, providing them with a hand up, not a hand out.”

The gameshow-based event was held at the Guntersville Town Hall, and was catered by Gunter’s Landing. One of the members of the winning team, Guntersville Mayor Leigh Dollar, said she thought the food was amazing and possibly the best it’s been yet.

Ward said the teams of elected officials, mayors, ministers, chambers, car dealers and medical persons were a big hit with everyone in the packed house.

“The ‘celebrities’ that participated in Celebrity Feud did not disappoint,” Ward said. “They and host Tim Hays kept the crowd laughing all night. We appreciate the time they took out of their schedules to help support Home Place.”

The winning team of mayors included: Councilman Ben McGowan, who sat in for Albertville Mayor Tracy Honea, Arab Mayor Bob Joslin, Boaz Mayor David Dyar, Douglas Mayor Corey Hill, Grant Mayor Larry Walker and Guntersville Mayor Leigh Dollar.

The second-place winners of car dealers included: Randy Baugh from Gilbert and Baugh Ford, Mark Brickey from Sand Mountain Toyota, Taylor Bentley Connor from Howard Bentley Buick GMC, Kerry Mitchell from Chevrolet of Boaz, Denson Honea from Nissan of Albertville and Steven Smith from Alexander Ford.
